How to get started in SimRacing?
Want to start in Sim Racing? There are two platforms for racing simulation: on console or on PC. However, doing SimRacing on PC provides you with the ideal architecture for high-performance equipment. Becoming a SimRacing driver on console will limit you in the choice of SimRacing equipment. While on console, racing games like Forza or Gran Turismo are the standard, racing simulation on PC with games such as Assetto Corsa, iRacing, or the F1 series are demanding games that require suitable SimRacing equipment.
What equipment for my SimRacing setup?
A SimRacing setup or SimRacing rig typically consists of a racing cockpit, a gaming wheel, and a gaming pedal set. For the cockpit, if you don't have space for such equipment, you can opt for a wheel stand, or a foldable cockpit. As for the wheel, there are different types, from the belt-driven wheel to the Direct Drive wheel for the top end of racing equipment. Lastly, for the pedals, demanding simracers will turn to the Load Cell pedal technology. All these pieces of equipment form the foundation for equipping oneself in SimRacing.
What budget for SimRacing?
There are simracing setups for all budgets. If you want to equip yourself with a cockpit with a wheel and pedals, count between 500€ and 1000€ for a complete Sim Racing setup that will allow you to drive in satisfactory immersion conditions. For a setup based on an aluminum profile cockpit accompanied by its electronic equipment, you will need to budget more than 1000€, and sometimes several thousands if you want a dynamic cockpit mounted on actuators, for a true racing simulator.
